There are many reasons why you may wish to root your Chromebook some of the benefits are:
• Access to developers mode
• Install any APK app or program
• Install Linux or Windows
• Install a custom OS
• Run complex root system programs and operations
• Boost the capabilities of your Chromebook
Ofcorse this voids all warranties of your Chromebook and if you don’t know what you are doing can even render your device useless if you install some less than great APK programs for eg.
That being said for many many people it is necessary and worthwhile, regardless of your requirements and reasons.
STEP 1
Back up all your data to the cloud service of your choice and turn off the Chromebook. All local data will be erased!
STEP 2
Hold down the ESC and REFRESH (F3) button at the same time. Whilst holding these down hold down the POWER button for 5 seconds. Then release the POWER button still holding the other two. After 3 second release the other two. This may need to be done twice or so but typically works the first time.
STEP 3
When a white screen with some scary looking Google information appears tell you your device is all but knackered and OS doesn’t work, bress CTRL and D together! This will open a developers option screen.
STEP 4
Press ENTER!
STEP 5
Your device will reset taking around 4 minuets with a small count down time ever in the top left corner.
Once rest a screen will show saying you have not installed an operating system.
On this screen press CTRL and D together.
This may need to be done more than once.
This will take you back to the log in screen.
STEP 6
Login as usual. Open settings and SECURITY, allow third party installations.
You’re good to go!!! ☝?
Install the OS or APKs that you wish and happy using!

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Al-Sahawat Times than ever but advertising revenues across the global media industry are falling fast. And unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a total paywall. We want to keep our journalism as open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Al-Sahawat Times’ independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe truly ethical media and an unbias perspective really matters.
“I appreciate there not being a paywall: it is more democratic for the media to be available for all and not a commodity to be purchased by a few. I’m happy to make a contribution so others with less means still have access to information.”
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, the future of ethical media and the futures of our staff and their families would be much more secure. For as little as £1, you can support Al-Sahawat Times and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
